Used Car Purchases And What I Did Wrong

Saturday, December 3rd, 2011

When I bought a used car a couple of months ago, I made a huge mistake and I have been regretting it ever since. This car has been a huge headache from the minute I bought it. I would love to just take it and push it off the nearest cliff.

However, because I don’t have enough money to get a different car, I am stuck with it. I did not make one mistake when buying this vehicle; I made multiple mistakes.

The following are some of the things that I did wrong when making this purchase:

I know nothing really about cars yet I saw fit to judge this vehicle myself before buying it. I now believe that if a more experienced driver had taken a look at it, they never would have bought it. The fact that I paid for this car is something that every mechanic I have taken it to seems to be speechless about.

My next mistake was that I failed to investigate what the average selling price was for this type of car. This meant that the owner was not only able to sell me a banger but he could also overcharge me for the pleasure I do not know how this guy can sleep at night. However, I realise that some of the blame lies squarely with me because I did not know how what a fair price was. I basically invited him to overcharge me.

Not taking the car for a test drive was another huge mistake that I am ashamed to admit to. I was embarrassed about my driving skills because I am a new driver. So now I am paying the price. Had I taken the car for a test drive, even I would have noticed the problems.

Used Car Buying And Some Simple Tips

Wednesday, November 30th, 2011

Buying used cars is not rocket science but there are plenty of things that could go wrong. If people follow a few simple precautions then they should be able to avoid some of the worst mistakes associated with buying used cars.

The information in this article aims to give you a better idea of what precautions you need to take.

When it comes to used car purchases, to be on the safe side, you will need to stick to cars that are just a few years old. If you do this then you will probably find that the manufacturer’s warranty is still in place which is great news. While the warranty is in place, you will be able to use it if something goes wrong with the car.

Those who buy second hand cars would be advised to choose one of the most popular types of car. The popular cars are the ones that people can rely on and that is why they are a good choice. The other good thing about buying a popular car is that they will be much easier to get fixed. It is going to be much easier for the mechanics to find the spare parts that are required for these cars and they will be much more comfortable with repairing them.

Being sure about the identity of the seller is something you need to do if you are going to buy a used car from them. So you should not be afraid to ask for identification. Make sure you go to view the car at the sellers home or place of business; that way you will know where to find them should anything go wrong.

Always trust your instincts and if the seller appears dodgy in any way, then don’t buy the car.

How To Stop Yourself Feeling Remorse After You Sell Your Car

Sunday, November 20th, 2011

Sellers remorse is as common as buyer’s remorse when the item in question happens to be a used car. When a person sells a used car and realises that he or she did not get a good deal because they took a price that was lower than they were hoping for, seller’s remorse ensues.

If seller’s remorse is something that you would rather avoid, then the following tips will help

One of the reasons why people suffer from seller’s remorse is that they had unrealistic expectations to begin with. This occurs because they did not fully check the market to see what the going sale price was for their type of vehicle.

It pays to do your homework before you try to sell, and this way you can reduce the risk of disappointment. And it will also ensure that you don’t price your car too low and get less than you could have.

Seller’s remorse can also occur when people choose to sell their old car to a used car dealer. You are not going to get a good price for your car from a used car dealer because they will want to sell the car on for a profit; that means they are going to give you as little as possible. Cutting out the middleman is the best way for you to get the best price. However, you need to be prepared for a longer wait for a buyer this way.

You may also not get the price you want for your car if you don’t stick to your guns. Just because you are keen to get the car sold, you should never allow the buyer to take control of any negotiations. When it comes to price negotiations, you need to have a minimum price in your head and be prepared to stick to this.

The Possible Reasons You Are Finding It Hard To Sell Your Car

Thursday, November 17th, 2011

There are a number of reasons why you may be having trouble selling your old car. Unless your old car is a pile of rubbish, there should be no real reason why you can’t find a buyer; the demand for second hand cars is very high at the moment. There are a number of common mistakes that people often make when it comes to selling their old car and this is what holds them back.

If you are finding it hard to sell your car then it could be because of any one of the reasons below

A huge mistake that many people these days make is that they will not prepare their car for potential buyers to view. If your car is like a rubbish tip then even the most desperate buyer won’t want it. Getting rid of any rubbish is very important and you need to make sure that you give the car a good clean. It would be wise to try and get the car looking as good as possible. You should also make sure to clean the tyres completely as well.

Trying to sell a car that stinks is another big mistake; this commonly happens because people will smoke in their car. When trying to sell your old car, it is best to try and get rid of nasty smells.

People fail to advertise their car properly, and then they wonder why nobody wants to buy. Using more than one method of advertising is the best way to find a buyer. This means advertising it online and in the newspaper. Another effective method that some people will try is to put a sign up in the car so that everywhere they go, people will know that it is for sale.

Make sure that you are friendly to people who come to view the car but avoid looking too desperate to sell. It is better to make the buyer think that you are a bit reluctant to sell.

Why I Decided To Buy A Used Car Instead Of Something New

Sunday, October 30th, 2011

I recently made a purchase of a second hand car. I had enough money to be able to buy a brand new car but I decided that I would be better off with something second hand. I must admit that I do love sitting behind the wheel of something brand new for the first time, but it is also nice to sit behind the wheel of a nice new used vehicle.

The sense of pride that I got with this particular car was amazing to be honest. The following are just some of the reasons why I chose a second hand car this time

I managed to pick up a luxury car at a very reasonable price because it is second hand. Although the car was only a couple of years old when I bought it, the price I paid was less than half of the value of a brand new model.

While I did not get the plastic on the seats or that new car smell, the car I bought is in fantastic condition so I am pleased with this. Buying a brand new model of this car is not something that I would have had the money for so the fact that I have got my hands on this car is great.

Another nice thing about buying a luxury second hand car is that it will not depreciate as quickly as the new cars I’ve bought in the past. With the brand new cars that I bought in the past, the value dropped as soon as I drove out of the showroom and after just one year they were only worth half of what I had paid.

With this luxury car that I have just bought, I don’t have the same worries because it was built to last and that means that it will depreciate at a much slower rate. I’m sure if I tried to sell it today, I might even make some money. After all, I did get it very reasonably priced.

How To Figure Out The Price When Selling Used Cars

Wednesday, October 19th, 2011

If you are thinking about selling your old car then one thing you might be wondering about is how to figure out what the asking price should be. Obviously you are going to want to get as much as possible for it. However, if you ask for too much then a lot of potential buyers will be put off.

If you set the price too low then you are setting yourself up for getting way too little. With most buyers wanting to haggle on the asking price, it is very unlikely that you will get this amount. So you should think about the price you are willing to accept for the car and then ask for a bit more.

When it comes to used cars, the tips below should help when working out the selling price.

The first thing you need to do is figure out the going rate for a used car of your make and year. Finding out the average and top selling price is a good idea and you will have to do your research. When it comes to finding this information, it is available online or offline in the car classified ads. The condition of your car is something else you need to consider. It is very unlikely that you will get anywhere near to the top asking price if your car is not in good condition.

Think about whether you would prefer a quick sale or the highest price. Don’t price your car much higher than the average price if you want to get rid of it quickly. However, you can ask for a higher price if you don’t have a big problem waiting for a better price.

It might be wise to have a higher price initially. You can just keep lowering the price until you get interested parties.

Used Car Warranty Contracts Online… Where Do You Go To Get The Best Price on An Extended Car Warranty?

Friday, October 14th, 2011

Getting car warranty coverage on a pre-owned car can be a very intelligent decision. If your vehicle is begining to get up there in mileage, it is a very good chance that one of these days it’s going to end up costing you some money for repairs and performing regular scheduled maintenance. Every machine needs to be serviced and maintained !

Extended car warranties are getting very popular in the past few years. Many people decide to get an extended service agreement when they purchase a automobile at a car dealership. This is usually a very good time to get that warranty especially if you are taking out a loan on the pre-owned vehicle, an extra few thousand dollars for a service contract can only be a few dollars added to your car payment.

Most of the time if one mechanical breakdown goes wrong with a used vehicle people who think they are trying to conserve a few dollars by not repairing the problem are simply costing themselves a lot more cash in the long run. In this day and age you can get an extended used car warranty directly from the warranty company and save a ton of money off the dealers marked up price. If you believe you can get away with not spending money on servicing a used car on a regular basis, think again! You are most likely going to end up spending hundreds of dollars more whenever something goes wrong.

Cars and trucks are not built to last a long time. They have many different moving parts that need to be serviced regularly in order to keep the car in safe mechanical condition. If you rather pay a lump sum price and be covered for a year to three years on unexpected car repairs then getting a free auto warranty quote is a fantastic idea for you. Some extended service plan companies also allow you to finance the amount of the car warranty for just a few dollars per month. This is a great choice if your funds are limited.

A transmission problem can cost you over a few thousand dollars on your average used vehicle. To replace a tranny in a car it can cost you upwards of $3000 depending on the type of vehicle. The bottom line is that you don’t want to be stuck with a hefty auto repair bill in the near future if you can simply purchase an extended car warranty and have bumper to bumper coverage just in case it happens.

Buying a Used Car Without Getting Squeezed By a Lemon

Wednesday, October 12th, 2011

We live in some very trying times, with gas prices soaring and our cars breaking down, we can find ourselves looking for a used car to buy before we know it. If we go looking at different locations and dealerships for our used car purchase we can leave ourselves open to influence from less than honest private sellers and dealership staff alike. These people will look just like everyone else around us and we will simply not be able to tell the difference until they start talking. Because of this it is best to keep your guard up and do everything you can to be careful.

Because we are in tough economic times we can find ourselves at risk of purchasing a used car that is what is known as a “lemon”, or a car that never does work quite right no matter what is fixed on it. I had a car like that myself once, I think it went through 4 transmissions in as many weeks! I got lucky, the dealer I bought it from stood behind their guarantee, but many are not as stand-up as this one was. My car was not one of the typical lemon models, but any car can be a lemon if it was care for incorrectly or has the wrong parts for too long and is left that way. If you are not knowledgeable about cars, find someone who is to go with you while you are shopping for one.

When you are searching for a used car and you see a good deal, as bad as it might sound or seem, question it thoroughly. There are far too many stories of people thinking they were getting “the deal of a lifetime” and it looked so good that they couldn’t resist and they wound up getting involved in a very messy business like buying a car that turned out to be a lemon or buying from a shady individual or dealership and having a hard time getting out of it. Make sure you have the full contact information for everyone you talk to about a used car so you can keep track of who told you what information.

The VIN (Vehicle Identification Number) of the car you are wanting to buy can tell you a lot of information about the car and its past history. It can also indicate whether or not a car has been altered or is perhaps stolen entirely. A VIN is unique to every car produced and is attached to the car’s dashboard as a small metal plate that is riveted in place. If this plate is loose or appears to have been altered in any way then chances are the car you are looking at is “hot” and not in a good way! It is a good idea to just make any excuse you can and walk away from a dealer selling such a car because they could very well be crooked.

And one last thing in closing: make sure the car you are buying has a history of being insured! Insurance can not only prove that a car has a legit history, but it can indicate who the last owner of the car was; this information should match up with what you are being told by the person who is trying to sell the car to you now and if it does not, you know to run for it! A legitimate dealer should have insurance documents to show you, no questions asked. A private seller might have a few different kinds of documents depending on the status of the vehicle, but they should still have something with their name and address on it to prove the car belongs to them.

There are plenty of car dealers in chicago who are ready and willing for your business transactions with their customers. Many car dealerships in chicago will do anything for you, and Bill Kay Chevrolet is one of them.

Selling Used Cars Without Any Hassle

Saturday, September 24th, 2011

If you have decided to sell your old vehicle then you will probably have two main aims. You will want to get the best possible price, and you will want to sell the car quickly. In reality you will often have to sacrifice one of these ambitions. So if you want to sell your car quickly you will usually have to drop the price. It doesn’t have to always be that way though.

The following are a few ideas which may help you to sell your car in a hassle free manner.

Letting others know that you are selling your car is the best way to ensure that you get it sold quickly and for a good price. The internet is a fantastic way to ensure that a huge audience of potential buyers knows that you have something to sell. You can find many great classified websites on which you can advertise your car for sale.

Don’t forget to use the traditional methods for selling your car. You should consider using a ‘for sale’ sign in the window of your car as this can be very effective. As you drive around you will be getting a lot of free advertising this way. It really is a great way to pick up a buyer quickly.

Make sure you are prepared to stick to your guns if you are hoping to get the best price. Select a price that you would be happy with and then put the price up by a little bit more. If you attract a lot of potential buyers then you can be fairly confident that somebody will be willing to pay this price. But for this to work, you will have to make sure you have chosen a reasonable price.

Make sure that your vehicle is looking its very best. This may mean breaking into a sweat but it will be worth it.
